Those liberal people and their passion for truth are so frightening to the extreme right. Let's face it the real enemies of the 'christian' extremists are truth and reality. I have always found historical revisionism disturbing which is one reason I have been spending a lot of time reading history books written by those who value the truth. A good starting point was Lies My Teacher Told Me: Everything Your American History Textbook Got Wrong by James W. Loewen. The Texas School Board has been rewriting history for a long time. This video below from PBS's Need to Know demonstrates just how insane they have gotten with their strange and illogical ideology. Their leader is a dentist, it's kind of scary he doesn’t believe in science. They completely ignore truth and replace it with their own agenda. Slowly, bit by bit they are making students less intelligent and less reality based. Why? Because to get people to believe in the same crazy crap they do stupidity is required. Essentially they are designing uneducated. propagandized, stupid people or should I say have designed? I don’t know about you, but I have noticed that it is working. Texas has a huge effect on the book publishers because they are such a large part of the market. In other words they along with California set the standards for the rest of the country. This forces me to ask the question, why are people stepping back and allowing the least academic among us and even people who seem quite delusional to decide what children are taught in public schools? What is it about society as a whole that we remained fairly quiet while this has been done over a long period of time? I think the real answer is most people found it hard to believe anyone would be allowed to do such a thing. Now we have become more conscious because of the internet which is facilitating change.
They object to certain words being used because they claim they put the United States in a negative light. Well if the shoe fits....I want the truth good or bad. Without truth we can't have a positive evolution of our country. Oh, I forgot evolution is an evil word, they would never want this country to evolve.
The word imperialism is being replaced with the word expansionism.
The word propaganda is being completely deleted.
The word capitalism is being replaced with the words free enterprise.
Why eliminate the name of their favorite thing, propaganda? I guess they think we can’t figure out what they are doing if the name of it is eliminated. Texas students (and others affected by lack of choice) are going to be very confused when they get into college and won't they be surprised to find out we have a capitalist economic system in this country. They sure will be shocked to find out women actually had to struggle to get the right to vote, men did not just give it to us out of the goodness of their hearts. Then there are the lies about slavery and the native people.
Every now and then we see some people rise up against the craziness and that is starting to happen in Texas. Now I happen to know Texans are not a quiet bunch and I have been wondering when this was going to happen. When I was in school they taught evolution because it is science. They told us about creationism as well, but did not go into great depth explaining that religious beliefs were varying and dependent on individual choice. Creationism is religion and public schools do not teach religion, or should I say didn‘t teach it.
