INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY: WOMEN'S PEACE MOVEMENT

Trailers below are from the documentary, "Pray the Devil Back to Hell", which tells the story of the women's peace movement in Liberia. These women had been living in a bloody civil war. Their sons had been given guns and drugs. Rape was being used against them. The Muslim and Christian women came together and gathered all of their courage to work for peace.

They ended up getting rid of the brutal Charles Taylor and electing a woman, Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, president. What if the Christian, Muslim, and women from other belief systems got together for peace all over the world? What could we accomplish. There are women everywhere working for peace and women's rights. I believe it is women who will put an end to the insane war machine in this country and help bring peace to the world. We have to muster our strength like the women of Liberia did. When I was young some men involved in politics tried to get me to run for office for two reasons, they knew I would never lie to the people and they said it is women who will put an end to war and work for equal rights for everyone. This was in the 1970s. There are many who have hated these men for their politics of equality and justice. It took me a long time to understand why. It is about power and money, the war the rich elite are waging against the middle class and poor.
